DESCRIPTION:Two runs in one night? Things are getting crazy with the Mediocre runners! We will meet at 6pm and run Bear creek trail for an hour and then head over to Barkers island to run a Glow run for the humane society. The short one is a more traditional style 5.5k trail run through pine valley. The longer one is a variable distance orienteering race. Follow markings to the next set of markings and keep searching for more as they eventually lead you to data cards that tell you where to go next. People traditionally form groups\, even people that have never met anyone there generally group up as they try to figure out the where to go. Very much terrain\, going off the path through woods\, potentially through swamp or anything else that can be in the forest. Test your skills in Northern Minnesota’s version of the Barkley marathon (but much shorter\, and much easier\, but the same spirit.)\nEntrants are encouraged to wear flannel\, the traditional attire of the lost forester. With the support from Blue House\, they can become independent adults\, with a chance to beat the poverty that they faced as young\, vulnerable children and orphans. \nDate\, Time\, and Location\nThe Lost Forester takes place on Saturday\, August 23\, 2025 at 8:30 am at Pine Valley Recreation Center in Cloquet\, MN. \nRules\n\nHave fun and stay safe.\nStay on the mowed ski trail or mountain bike trail or follow the orange ribbons.\nUnused trails are blocked at intersections..\nFinish the race by ringing the Lost Forester’s dinner bell.\nStay afterwards for the Lost Forester’s favorite breakfast – flapjacks and maple syrup.\nPlaid is the shirt of choice.\nEye protection is highly recommended for the 12.5 miler.\nBe aware of the bear.\n\n  \nLost Forester – 5.5K\n\n\n1) One clockwise loop on Pine Valley ski trail\n\n\n\n\n2) Don’t go on the mountain bike trails\n\n\n  \n\n\na) The turn off to the mountain bike trail is well marked\, don’t take it\n\n\n  \n3) The turn off to Pine Valley West is mowed and well-marked\, don’t take it \n\n\n4) Go straight through intersections\n\n\n\n\n5) Stay on mowed ski trails\n\n\n\n\n6) Mostly red flags sticking in the ground block no go intersections\n\n\n  \n\n\na) There are some yellow flags blocking turn offs in the back loop\n\n\n  \n7) Ignore orange ribbons hanging from trees and brush \n8) Go through the finisher chute\n  \nLost Forester – 12.5 miler\n\n\n1) Be safe\n\n\n\n\n\n\na. You should have a compass\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nb. Bring your own water and energy while in the woods\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nc. Ground is very uneven\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\ni. Be careful of hidden holes\, logs\n\n\n\n\nd. Brush is very thick \n\n\ni. Be careful of twigs in or near your face\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nii. Glasses sun or safety are highly recommended\n\n\n\n\ne. Run in a group or with a partner if you are unsure of your wood skills\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nf. You might get wet\n\n\n\n\n2) Follow the yellow flags on the ground and orange ribbons hanging from the trees and brush \n\n\na. Pay attention to the yellow flags with Lost Forester logo and text “11k & 8 miler”\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nb. Yellow flags will ALWAYS be on your left\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nc. Follow the yellow flags around the corners of intersections\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\nd. On top of the ski jump hill there is a short section of two-way trail marked with yellow and orange flags\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\ne. There may be some pink paint arrows if the rain didn’t wash them out\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nf. The yellow flags kind of blend in with the green leaves\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\ng. Whenever you see orange two orange Killer Tree ribbons about a foot apart\, follow them\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\nh. 1 ribbon keep going straight-ish – may be just a plain orange ribbon\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\ni. 2 ribbons make a sharp turn or go off or on a trail\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\ni. When going off trail – there will be two orange Killer Tree ribbons\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nii. When getting back on trail – there will be two orange ribbons and one orange ribbon about 20 feet away to indicate the direction to take on the trail\n\n\n\n\nj. 3 ribbons pick up a data card \n\n\ni. Data card must match your bib number. If you have the wrong number and you are finished before the person with your number\, you will be docked.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nii. Data cards are in VERY inconvenient locations\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\niii. Data cards are visible and well-marked but you might miss them\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\niv. Follow the instructions in the white mesh bag\n\n\n\n\n\n\n3) When you find the Lost Forester\, he will provide you with a treat\n\n\n\n4) For a clean finish\n\n\n\n\n\n\na. Bring back all data cards – runners don’t know how many\n\n\n\n\n  \n\n\ni. Data card must match your bib number\n\n\n  \nb. Start at the timing shed and go up the ski jump landing hill \n\n\n\n\nc. Ring the forester’s lunch bell\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nd. Under 180 minutes\n\n\n\n\n5) All runners will get a time\, except those that don’t finish or don’t have all their data cards\n\n\n\n6) There will be a muddy spot in a swamp\n\n\n  \n\n\na. You might get muddy\n\n\n  \n7) There will be 3 road crossings – be safe\, \n  \n\n\na. Nobody will be watching for cars\n\n\n  \n8) There is a patch of poison ivy on the course \n  \n\n\na. The ribbons go around it\n\n\n  \n9) There is a lot of buckthorn \n  \n\n\na. It is prickery\, watch out for it\n\n\n  \n  \n

SUMMARY:Brownell: The People Have Spoken
DESCRIPTION:  \n  \nWe are doing our first ever voted on run. We are celebrating our Trailocracy the day before the rest of the county celebrates our Democracy. July 3rd we are meeting at Peterson Aid Station\, the trail is apparently sometimes called Brownell. I think it’s the same one as our Bob Ross themed Happy Little 5k tree run (thanks Nick.)\nI feel like I might need to dust off the old Bob Ross costume just for fun. Feel free to join me. As always\, all paces welcome. Afters to be decided. I think we’ve done afters at Lonna’s house twice after this location\, but I am guessing she doesn’t want to this time (  ) Buffalo house is close\, but feel free to come with other suggestions. Strong possibility of an old favorite returning for this one (some of you defiantly already know what I am talking about.)See you all there

SUMMARY:Volunteer for SHTA
DESCRIPTION:We will be doing trail maintenance with SHTA this Thursday at 5:30pm. Unfortunately\, it is limited to 8 people and the sign up is full. I will be more prepared next year for this event and contact them sooner to have more slots open for everyone but for this year it is limited. If others wish to set up an event at this time for a run you are all more than welcome to do that. For those who have signed up you should have gotten an email to give further instruction on what to do.

DESCRIPTION:We will meet 6pm at the front of Sky harbor airport. This is a great flat route just before Grandmas for those who are participating in that. It also gives a chance to swing by the DECC and get your packet before the Friday craziness. All paces and distances are welcome. After will be with our friends at Hoops brewing!
