Mystery Run-Old Ski Jump

Lonna only told us where and when to meet and that what we were doing was going to be a mystery. We got there eager to see what craziness she had in store for us. She welcomed back Peter, as she hadn’t seen him in a while.

We started in an area that was familiar to people that ran the NMTC races before, but definitely took a different path. Still not wanting to spoil the surprise, even after the run had started, Lonna lead the way and we all had to follow.

Eventually we to to a spot in the path that she wanted us to get off the path. We trust her, so we followed. She showed us stuff left behind from the top of an old ski jump, then led us downhill and even further off the path until we got to where the bottom of the ski jump was.

Curious about it, some people took out smart phones and looked up the history. Found some pics and stories about it on its history page. Apparently in use until the 70s. It was fun learning history, but we had some trail running to do.

It was hot and humid. We talked about expectations for Curnow coming up on saturday, as well as talking about how hot it usually has been in the past. Matt found some mushrooms.

The run got a bit long. I accidentally had my watch paused for a while and still had 7 miles. The hills, roots, and rocks, weren’t too bad, but it was harder than a street run of the same distance.

We were tired by the end of it. We even decided to skip afters. But it is always fun hanging out with my Mediocre Trail Friends.
