Mediocre Mudder, obstacles and friends

The Mediocre Trail Runners hit the road on a not-Thursday run. Not sure if it was technically a trail, but defiantly trail-like. We did the 15k course of “Tough Mudder” and obstacle course with lots of running between the obstacles.

Probably not getting the order right, and probably forgetting some of the obstacles.

Ethan and Nick were great at all of them, while I feel like I barely got through. But in Mediocre style, whenever if was hard, they helped me and we all got through together.

I think the funnest was when I was in the water where you are supposed to crawl under the electrified things, but somehow the circuit was competed or something so I was just constantly shocking me on intervals but had to wait for the person in front of me to finish before I could. “ow, ow, ow, ow, ow, ow, ow, ow” -Direct quote from Jeffrey.

The human ladder was fun. Ethan made a great base helping up tons of people as they climbed on him, before he slipped on the slipper ledge and everyone came down.

I lost my glassed in the underwater thing where you use the fence above you to crawl. It looks like you have room up above you, but it doesn’t feel like nearly as much as it looks like when you get in. I ended up closing my eyed when you go under the part blocked off by a mat and overshot the part where I was supposed to come up to breath, so I had to just keep holding my breath to the next one. I would have left more time if I realized I was going to make that mistake, instead I crashed into Nick ahead of my because I was going much faster than I should have. The line on this one was super long. So long, that we made a friend in line, and hope to see him in our upcoming runs 🙂

The mudderhorn was a giant net wall you climb. Physically it wasn’t very hard. But if you have any fear of heights, it is much higher than it looks. I panicked and wanted to go back down, but several people behind me already started their climbs, so the only was out was forward and through.

There was a gas chamber, a small inclosed tunnel you go through with gas to make it harder to breath and bother your eyes.

there was a set of tubes to slide through. Someone climbs in, and then the people on that end lift and the people on the far end pull down. At least, ideally. When we got there, a girl had just gotten into the tube and we tried to lift it, but the people on the other end had apparently not waited to help, so we had a dickens of a time lifting it without the counter balance. Once we had someone through, it was really easy to keep the streak going.

That wasn’t the only one that emphasized teamwork. Block-ness monster does too. You grab the spinnable block, people on one side lift, people on the other pull, and it spins them over. Something really easy if everyone works together. Something super hard if there isn’t.

More than one style of climbing on bars, more than one style of wall to climb, too many things to really list individually. But cutting to the end, the last was the famous one, a bunch of electrified hanging things and you have to run through. You will get shocked. It was strong. I was forced down to crawling through the rest of it.

We saw some food trucks at the end, and in Mediocre Trail Runners tradition, we hung out, relived memories, compared stuff to other stories we had about our lives, talked about what we have coming up, what we’d done recently (like the Mediocre Ruck marches Ethan started on fridays.)

Always a blast with these people. Glad we could go down and spend the day together. But, very much harder than I thought it would be.
